Washington Congressional Delegation to Eric Holder – Please violate federal law with us

On June 17, 2013, seven Democrats from the state of Washington’s Congressional Delegation wrote a letter to the chief law enforcement officer in the United States asking him not to enforce federal law. You can read that letter here:

Federal officials swear an oath when they take office to uphold the laws and the Constitution of the United States. Unfortunately, for this band of renegades, Eric Holder is not running for re-election and doesn’t have to worry about what laws the people in the state of Washington think he should refuse to enforce. I’m not sure it’s treason for these Democrats to make such a request, but it comes awfully close.

The sad part of this story is that there is a federal law that Attorney General Holder is not enforcing. Congress put a limit on schedule one in the federal drug law that says the Attorney General may not classify a substance in schedule one if it has accepted medical use in treatment in the United States. Washington has had a state medical marijuana law since 1998, but the Congressional Delegation from the state of Washington has never once asked Attorney General Holder to enforce this prohibition on federal schedule one.
